I don't know what the rate of crime is down there now. I suspect it is not as high as some . I just did a quick search on the National Crime statistics thing - our area has 60 reported incidents. Clarence Road has 157. So on the face of it, it is quite high. However, it reports ALL incidents within 1 mile. Thus I think our area is skewed by the an area the other side of the parkway and Clarence Road is skewed by the fact that it includes the City Centre (which of course attracts a whole lot of drunken idiots at the weekends who indulge in Anti social behaviour).
Its alright for you Barmaid. Expect you're on 'nodding terms' with all the crims.
If I am ever the least bit worried, I hold my key-ring inside my hand, hooked round one finger, so I could open my hand and bash any attacker in the face with rather a lot of sharp keys. Either that, or, if I feel threatened, I start dancing erratically and singing "jesus wants me for a sunbeam" and everyone thinks a) I am mad and b) madness must be infectious, and they keep away.
Worked so far.

Yes, I think age comes into it. You cop yourself on when older.
