It varies from hospital to hospital - suggest you ring the one appointed.
I think there is a two week maximum wait in the NHS for suspect cancer procedures - at least that was the case last year when my wife was diagnosed - couldn't guarantee that's the same with a testicular cancer check but I think it's likely.

The Cancer research page (scroll down a bit) has the age profile for testicular cancer - at 45 he's not out of the risk age but he's certainly over the hump

Sorry to hear about it. I cant imagine how I would feel if this happened to my OH.. Hope everything is ok . Im afraid I dont know how long these appointments take at our hospital but I think it would depend on the size of the hospital
Try not to worry Alinic - it should happen quite quickly.

Mr BM had a lump "down there" - although the doctor thought it was quite likely a harmless varicocele he had a US within about a week which confirmed it was all tickety boo.

Best of luck and let us know how he gets on.
The other thing I would say is that treatment for Testicular cancer (and lets hope its not that) is very very effective.

Only 2 in a million people die of testicular cancer now

Breast cancer for example is 100 times more dangerous

Hundreds of people get it - my brother in law did 20 years ago, I'll be you know others who have - If not you may be surprised who comes out of the woodwork and you find out that they have

Even if it is bad news - he'll be fine

So don't worry and tell him he'll be fine

Question... did Mr. A ever have a vasectomy? Often, internal scar tissue on the vas deferens from the operation is mistaken for a lump...
I didn't answer because I wasn't sure whether you wanted to know the waiting time or indeed what might be the cause.

The first question, I cannot answer.

The second question .....I also cannot answer...BUT

There is the usual posters with website and statistics about testicular cancer.......this to me is unnecessary and bordering on scaremongering. There are half a dozen other benign conditions that it can be before the unlikely but possible diagnosis of cancer.

JTP..........there is no suggestion that he has testicular cancer.........why not wait for a significant diagnosis.

Thank you for all your replies, I havent looked on the internet as I have heard sqad tell people often enough not to bother etc... lol
He hasnt had a vasectomy, but like you all say he will prob be fine, just have to put the worring worm back in its box, but will keep you posted
sqad,

When people encounter something like this they fear the worst - telling them not to worry let's wait for a diagnosis doesn't help.

You don't think they go away thinking 'the doctor's right it's probably nothing' do you?

Much better to say look it's probably not but even if it is the repercussions are nowhere as bad as most people think

Trust me, I have had very immediate experience of this in the last 6 moinths
Jake.

I respect your opinion and yes, i do know that you have had personal experience of malignant disease for which i am following and am truly sorry.

\\\\When people encounter something like this they fear the worst - telling them not to worry let's wait for a diagnosis doesn't help.\\\

Of course they do and nowhere in my answers to the postes have i said "don't worry."

My experience is over over 35 years of telling people that they have malignant disease and during that time have changed my opinions on how to give them the news. People react differently and particularly the "stoics" who say "tell me doctor, I can take it " are quite often the most reactive on being told.

I don't know the correct answer to this............

I do know that it doesn't help assuming a diagnosis which is usually the most fatal and then giving then websites and information for a disease from which they almost certainly they do not suffer (the worst case scenario)

Malignant disease is well down in the starting price of almost all clinical presentations.

Once a diagnosis is established then i am all in favour of information whatever the source.
