External Hard Drive Specs

I need to buy an external hard drive, and see that you can now get ones with USB3. I have a normal Windows XP PC, with a firewire connector for video footage. Other than that I think I just have normal USB ports. Please can you advise me on what NOT to buy!I don't want to get something incompatible with my basic computer. I'm not clever enough to add in new boards and stuff.
I just want a good, reliable 1TB hard drive for saving videos I have made. Thanks

Get a USB3 one... it will work with USB2 ports fine and if/when you upgrade your computer you'll get the benefits of USB3
