Media Player That Plays From 2Tb Wd My Passport Hdd

Hi,
I've a 2TB WD portable hard drive & want to plug into the tv via a media player. Have done a fair bit of research & bought a Sumvision Cyclone 2+ which, according to a couple of websites, will accept hdd of up to 2TB. But it doesn't. I did wonder if it wasn't backwards compatible with the USB 3.0 on the drive but it won't even recognise a friend's 1.5TB hdd, which is USB 2.0. It does play SD cards & a 4GB memory stick.
I'm loathe to spend a ton more money on something else if that won't work either so does anyone have any suggestions, short of getting a smaller hdd which is looking the most likely option at the moment !

Almost certainly the drive is formatted in NTFS format and the media player will only read FAT32 format drives.

It's possible to reformat the drive in FAT32 if this is the case, but doing so would wipe the drive and also you'd need some software to do it as windows has an artificial limit built into it that stops it formatting drives over 32GB in FAT32

The drive is ntfs formatted but the description given for the media player says
"support fat32; ext3;ntfs hdd; mp3; wma; ogg; jpeg; bmp; png; gig; srt; smi; ssa; sub"
Wouldn't feel comfortable reformatting the drive, there is some WD stuff on there I'd sooner keep. And I think I heard something about one format being better for bigger files, not sure if that's ntfs ... oh b-u-m ...

Next guess would be the player isn't able to supply enough power through it's USB ports to power the drive... have you tried it in a USB2.0 port on a computer?

It's intended to be powered thru' the usb & yeah, it's absolutely fine on the PC, in a USB 2.0 slot.
When I tried the 1.5TB, that had a separate power supply & still didn't work, so I don't think that's the prob.

It does state on their help page that you'll "very likely" have to power hard drives using an external power supply.

That's a very useful site, thanks for that (why didn't I think to look there ?? Haha !), which also says it'll take up to 2TB drives ... grrr.
There is no option to power the hdd separately, it has a USB slot & that's it. And, the 1.5TB drive I tried WAS powered by an adaptor.
I'll take a closer look - off to work now - maybe I need to update the firmware or something.
