I received an email from Paypal headed " you have sucessfully lifted your Paypal withdrawal limit..."
I only use PP for buying so all transactions are from my bank account...so no seperate balance for funds from selling.
Why would I get this notification?
I've not opened the email.

Opening the email is unlikely to do any harm. If it addresses you by your real name it is legitimate, if not then it is a scam.
"I've not opened the email"

It's an email not a bomb, how else are you meant to know whether it's real if you don't open it?

From what i understand is you can open emails but ain't meant to click on links in the email or download anything, well this is what i do and never had any probs.
This is spam. Just junk it without opening and add to your blocked list.
phising - delete it, it's spam
Excuse me pasta. Where would one find a blocked list to block unwanted emails?
Pusskin, that would depend on which service you use for emails (Outlook/Gmail etc.)
yahoo mail daffy
As "daffy654" said Paypal will always address you with your full name . If the email does not do this it is a scam . Do not open it , just delete it.
Have you recently confirmed your account pasta? They put two small amounts in your account and you confirm it on the PayPal website (I have done this, but had to wait for my full bank statement before I could confirm the fact). I have had the same e-mail from PayPal.
paypal is having a lot of problems with spam email at the moment.
I tried to phone them about a problem yesterday and could not get through, there was a phone message saying they were having a very high call volume due to all the spoof emails.
If you are not sure just forward the email to spoof@paypal they will get back to you and tell you if it is genuine or not.
Pasta, I get a lot of these, one yesterday told me my account was blocked.

Forward it to [email protected] - they do appreciate it.
Agree 100% with Boxtops. They can, and do catch the fraudsters and sometimes the spoof emails forwarded to them assist.
Yep. Paypal spam is as common as muck. If a mail has an link and you hover your mouse pointer over it and watch the url in the bottom left corner (in windows Mail) it will show you were that will take you if you click it.
The last one I received showed a "real" email address in somewhere like Roumania.
