I was reading a book about British DNA a while ago - rather difficult and I may be misrepresenting it - but I think the gist of it was that after the ice age, central Britain (ie England, more or less) was settled by people from Bulgaria and Ukraine who came overland (the Channel didn't exist then) and the "Celtic fringe" - Cornwall, Wales, Ireland, Scotland and islands - by people from the Basque region. And that all the invasions by Danes, Romans, Normans, Saxons etc etc etc have made almost no difference since then. So if people instinctively feel there are just two races in Britain, the Celts and the rest, they could be right (though wrong to suppose it's anything as recent as "Anglo-Saxons").
