I have a new Lenova G580 and nearly every time I switch it on I get a message 'windows configuring updates' then it says 'installing updates', it gets to 15% every time then says 'failed'-so it starts again and the same thing happens, then it says 'reverting changes', shuts down then does it all over again!!The same things happens and it is taking over 20mins to get online. I checked the system & security and it says all o.k. but when I checked 'update history' it showed 32 important updates failed.I have tried to install them both altogether and individually but still they fail. I looked at Lenova hardware scan checkup and did a Smart short self test which showed Warning-result code WHD01V000-BI7Z2G -whatever that is?
I got in touch with Amazon who suggested I return it for a refund, but wondered if anyone on AB could suggest anything -whether it may be something I have or haven't done. I must admit I would not be sorry if I could get a refund as I really dislike windows 8, but I am concerned that it may not by faulty and may just need a simple adjustment.
Sorry to be so longwinded with this but hope someone can help -rosy

you could always do a system restore to a point before you had these errors

Try the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

Thank you for the link Chris, I'm not very proficient on the computer I'm afraid (but you should see my garden:0) I did check your link and it said 2 errors fixed, but it also said in update history -
most recent check for updates -never
updates were installed -never
you have not tried to install any updates on your computer
6updates currently installed.

so where have the 32 important updates gone? It is all a bit beyond me :o(

Thank you fender, I ran the troubleshooter, it said windows error, database error detected, repaired corruption etc. I then downloaded the 33 important updates,(which had re-appeared!) but when it installed them-it stopped at 15% again (twice) then reverted again. It must be the laptop surely, I have been on here half the day, so back it goes-unless anyone else has any other suggestions?? -rosy

I've only had the laptop for about three weeks fender and it doesn't seem to have updated in that time, the courier from Amazon is picking it up tomorrow. If there isn't anything wrong with it I will have to pay £40+ collection and return which is why the haste in seeking replies. It is a pity really, I didn't like windows 8 but with doing all this searching etc. I think I am getting the hang of it and might like it eventually. I really don't know how to do a system restore- do you think I should try before I pack it away? Thank you for replying again -rosy
