Transferring E Mails To New Laptop
8 Answers
I have a new laptop which uses Windows 8 but I wish to keep using Windows Live Mail for my e mails. I have set up Windows Live mail 2011 on my new laptop as on my old one, the settings and account are exactly the same on both but e mails sent to me are only received on the old laptop. How do I amend the e mail account so that all e mails are received on Windows Live mail on my new laptop? Any help would be gratefully received

This means that if you collect the e-mails on one machine, they won't be available for download on the other.
You can change this default behaviour by going into the account settings and checking the box "leave a copy on the server" or words to that effect.
There is usually also an option to say how long the copy should remain there before being deleted (if you never delete download e-mails, eventually your mailbox will fill up).
Ideally you'll set this period to be long enough to collect e-mails on bothe machines (say, 3 days), but short enough that your mailbox doesn't exceed its quota.

My method ensures that you can pick up new e-mails on both machines.
WyeDyed's link tells you how to transfer e-mails already downloaded to your new machine.
If you want all your old e-mails on your new machine, then you need to follow the instructions in WyeDyed's link.
If you want to continue to collect e-mails on both machines, then you need to follow my instructions.
If you want to both transfer your old e-mails and continue to collect new ones on both machines, then you need to use both sets of instructions.
