Security keys
1 Answers
I am a tenant in a block of flats, and have only one set of keys. I want to have a spare set of keys, but my front door key is one of those keys which is it illegal to make a copy, and no locksmith I have been to will do it for me. There is a name of a company of the key, but it does not seem to exist any more. How can I get a spare key cut?

If you point out the inconvenience and expense of someone from the letting company coming to let you in if you lose your one set of keys, or the expense in replacing the lock, then they should see the sense of providing you with at least one spare set. Failing that, enquire with a reputable locksmith about the circumstances under which you can have a copy key cut - maybe providing proof of ownership of the lease may help.
