Anyone watching? I've just started watching but I am having trouble even looking at one of the male competitors. He looks like his face has been moulded (badly), his eyebrows are strange and he appears to be plastered in make up. Anyone noticed him? Not a very good picture, but it is the bloke second bloke from the left on the sofa http://

I was fascinated by the very young looking male who kept on explaining himself, even after they'd won, I don't know what he was on, but he looked like a cross between Christopher Dean the skater and the Duracell bunny. I though that the only unfake woman was fired, although she was a fool to volunteer!

There is a pattern with all 'reality' shows - and The Apprentice now falls into it very obviously.
To begin with, everything is new and fresh and untested. After a few series, people realise how the format works, and they start acting up for the cameras, and playing a role which may not be connected in any way with their actual personality of skills.
That acting up then increases with each series, until now, the Apprentice has people aming statements that suggest they have spent some considerable time wondering how to make themselves appear simultaniously as cretinous, arrogant, pompous, untrustworthy, unpleasant, and desperately delusional as possible, or ...
they ingest large amounts of industrial-strength mind-altering drugs!
However they arrive with the cartoon personalities they present for the show's trailers, they start from a position of apathy or seething hatred from the viewing public, and continue to act like both ends of a pantomime horse for several weeks, until the best game-player (and never forget it is only ever a game!) emerges as the 'winner'.
Never underestimate the power of aparently intelligent people to ritually humilate themselves for a chance of 'fame'.

There's a long selection process from thousands of applicants which ensures that only the biggest nobheads make it to the screen, because they make the best telly.
Having got the biggest nobheads, they then goad them into saying outrageously daft things ......e.g
'I am the reflection of perfection'
'I am Stuart Baggins - the brand'
'Winning is not the main thing..it's the ONLY thing'
'I'd prostitute my children to win this thing. Grrrrrrr'.
'I am a shark and I eat the little fish for breakfast'
..and so on - lines probably written by the producers. Then at the end of it they sit the winner in an office somewhere and say, 'Sorry, there's no job love, it's just a TV program' - allegedly.

You could be right about the 'lines' being given to the candidates.
But you do have to question the judgement of any supposdely mature and intelligent adult who agrees to say such things to a camera without first thinking - "Hang on, if I say that, I'll come across as a right knobhead!!!"
Perhaps that willingness forms part of the selection process - hey lads, we got him / her to say that line we were all alughing about over lunch - they'll be up for anything now!!

I think the first series was the best. James Max is now in LBC, Sarah Khan is a presenter, and the dark haired Italian guy who was in property recently worked as an Estate agent in Kingston Surrey Not sure if he is still there, but none of the contestants on future shows seem to have 'become' anything. Wonder if Stella English will manage to get another job? I doubt anyone will employ her, with her compensation claim recently against SurAlan.
