I did mean "equality". Has anyone used one? And thanks for answers so far.
I think I would make sure I was near the child before pressing the retract. You can walk towards using hand-over-hand to shorten the rein - so you end up with a short bit between you and the child, and a slack bit between your hand and your waist. Then retract that bit.

It's ok dancecaller, I have bought one. There isn't a retract option on it. It's a very short length of cable that goes in and out on it's own as the child moves towards you and away from you. It is possible for the child to step into the road when you're walking on the pavement with him, so I hold the sturdy strap when we're donig that. If we were in the woods I wouldn't need to hold him at all. The furthest away he can be from me is one metre.
