Walk away from the situation, find a quiet place to calm down. A good rant is always good to get it out your system, works for me, I'm sure all hubby hears is blah, blah, blah. He just lets me go on till I run out, then I'm fine.

Scream and scream and scream until you're sick?

;o)
Go sit by yourself and calm down.
Is it he sort of 'red rage' sudden anger?

This is sometimes known as an amygdala hijack

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amygdala_hijack

It's a short path in the human brain that triggers a fight or flight response before you have time to think about it - if you have a fear of spiders say it's the same reason that that reaction is so fast the moment you see a hairy leg!

This is why count to ten helps - it gives your rational brain time to get a grip

If you let an amygdala hijack take you you often do or say things immediatly and then you're emotionally investde in your position - it becomes difficult to back down without losing face.

Understanding that we all have this short instinctive path is important because then you can try to put the brakes on - whether it's go for a walk or count to ten it doesn't really matter you have to find a coping strategy to let the rational part of your mind to get back in control over the 'lizard brain' bit.
I usually start crying...

umm if I sit & calm then I feel very nervous. :(
Question Author
fairy it's not easy to walk away from the situations.
But that nervous feeling will pass.
Question Author
ummm are you sure?
Of course you feel nervous

When you get angry you get a huge shot of adrenaline into your system, maybe you even get shakes.

yes it will pass as your body deals with it
depends on the situation, sometimes anger is warranted. if you are getting angry at nothing, anger management courses can help.
I know it's not easy to walk away, but it totally throws the other person who is expecting you to blow, it also gives you time to think. We all have our breaking points. Depends on what as made you angry in the first place.
