Well its not much help but I find it much better to use a headset with built in mic. Then use msn for voice and yahoo messenger for the cam. Perfect every time.
The other thing I would suggest is to make sure you have not got something on mute, but I am sure you have thought of that. Also in camera settings audio make sure the Logitech mic is selected. Hopefully someone else might know more.
Hi Kiwi.....a few things to try....

........if you are using this for MSN messenger you can do Tools/Audio and Video set up and go through the Wizard..making sure the correct things are selected and working....

..........When you double click the sound icon on the taskbar is the actual microphone slider there?..if not click options/properties and add the microphone by checking the box, you might have to scroll down...then use the slider to increase the mic volume...and make sure it is not muted.

.......or do Start/control panel and d/click the Sounds and Audio devices icon then on the Audio tab get Volume for the mic and use the slider...........

......try the sound recorder in the accessories/entertainment section...........it should be working.

.....when you are connected to your friend look for a tiny triangle to click on, near the microphone icon and make sure it is not muted there...........

...so many things can be tried.....

....hope one of these works for you....commoner :-)
