This is a proposal from the Home Secretary, Theresa May. While such a crime is heinous should it really attract a longer sentence than that handed down for the murder of a child?

No occupation should have nothing to do with it. What should have something to do with it is when someone murders someone particularly vulnerable like a child or a very elderly person, or someone disabled that cannot fight back. A police officer in the prime of life who has taken on a dangerous job really ought not to get more consideration than the rest of us.
