no, you are wrong. firefox is SO much better than IE6 it's unreal. those sites have been created by idiots that only wrote specific code that only runs on microsoft's browser. it is the site at fault, not firefox.
what I suggest you do is use the latest official version of IE (currently 6) for those sites that do not work with firefox. for everything else, use firefox. simple.

mkjuk - you can ignore that "not supported" message and log on to Abbey's online service anyway. Using Firefox doesn't stop you from being able to log on and the site doesn't look detectably different if you use Firefox to view it.
The reason that the message even exists in the first place is that Abbey only test their site on IE and Netscape on PCs - it would cost them money to also test on Firefox. Every single test that they run would have to be run a third time.
