Or in basic terms the voltage divided by the amps equals the resistance.
ie 240 (Volts) divded by 3 (Amps) equals a resistance of 80 Ohms. So look on your hairdrier what the OHM rating is then divide 240 by this b=number it then will give you an Amp rating. Use the fuse which is nearest or just above this figure.
It's extremely unlikely to find the resistance marked on a hairdryer these days jlbharper. They are all marked by the wattage at a nominal 230 volts so the amperage is a lot easy to work out by dividing the wattage by 230 volts.
An 1800 watt appliance is 1800/230 = 7.82 amps. A 10 amp fuse would probably be ok here but a 13 amp will ensure that it does not run warm and shorten its life.
