Slow cooker info please

I'm considering purchasing a slow cooker. My son'd be using this for melting wax for candle making, so I need to know 2 things:

1. how fast these cookers heat up to temperature? (e.g. like a kettle, in 15 minutes, or is it really a 'hey better go out for the day' ...)

2. the kind of temperatures the 'low' 'medium' and 'high' settings work at.

Can anyone help?

The clue is in the word slow. I don't know if they'd be any good for what you want though.

I have one, but I use it just for cooking and as a slow cooker for soups and casseroles etc. I'll bung stuff in the night before, turn it on, and have it the next day.

I would also think the stink of wax - if it totally melts, which I am not sure it would - would be too much.

An old saucepan on a conventional hob would be better I'd have throught.

I ordered a cooker from comet,and it took six weeks to arrive...!! that's what you call a slow cooker..(:)
