Denis Healey once likened being attacked by Geoffrey Howe, Lord Howe now, as similar to being savaged by a dead sheep. His attack on Thatcher years ago led to her eventual downfall and his attack on Cameron may do the same.

How does a sheep that is dead attack someone? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Maybe Healey was saying that Howe attacking an opponent would be as effective as an attack from the dead sheep.
Ah ok, I get it now.
