The Austin All Aggro as I called it, and the Metro that was basically an Allegro with a tailgate. Then there was the Austin Princess that was very comfortable and powerful yet it had similar transmission to the Allegro that simply could not handle the power from the 1800cc lump. This could have been a fantastic flagship vehicle for BL but yet again their mission statement of "it'll do" ruined it.
The list of those cars best recycled into washing machines and beer tins would be incomplete without the Morris Marina and Austin Maxi, both of which were awful even if you were lucky enough to get one that was built properly. And every single Ford, Vauxhall, Datsun and Toyota from the 1970s would dissolve into a pile of dust after a few showers.
If that isn't an ad for the Germans I don't know what else is.
