Screen Goes Blank When I Adjust Volume

Got a Sony Vaio laptop as a get well present from OH and I am delighted with it apart from one little thing(so far)
When watching iPlayer any of the other main 5 TV channels if I adjust the volume the screen goes blank.I can only get the picture back by altering the brightness.I am using the keyboard,pressing Fn and F3 or F4.
It was not doing this a few days ago so can someone please tell me what has been pressed to make this happen?
OH was using it yesterday so maybe he pressed something-not that he knows if he did or not.
Any advice would be great.

It sounds like a driver problem to me but I've not a clue how to fix it!

Sorry,this was bugging me so I got thinking the way it was acting was like there was a conflict somewhere.Went through recently installed programs and found a camera programe that I had forgotten I had installed(note to self do not install programs late at night!)
Removed the offending programme and everything is back to normal!! Yay I fixed something instead of breaking it.

Now I can sleep soundly
