In the Uk, where possible, and it ususally is, ultrasound is used to shatter the stone into small pieces which can then be passed in urine. I am afraid that drinking more water alone wont help to dissolve it but will help you to pass if if its passable. This is painful in the extreme and not recommended. There aren't organic therapies that work. If you decide to try to pass it unaided, you will need mega pain relief and pee through a teastrainer so you catch the stone. Passing it unaided is not good for the poor kidney, I wouldn't risk it.
What did the Medic who diagnosed you say ??
I agree with all that woofgang has said.

Treatment will depend upon the side of the stone and the condition of the kidney.
sorry"size"
If the stone is small enough it will with time pass with water, you should take painkillers as this can be very painful. If stone is larger ultrasound at you local hospital will be used, you will need a doctor to refer you I believe.
I believe some consultants are starting to question ultrasound treatment believing that the small remnants may increase the liklihood of recurrence by acting as seeds for more stones to grow

You might want to discuss that with your consultant
