I dont think you can prepare for an interview, just be yourself, confident and smile a lot, it shows u r a friendly person.Look at me, ive worked in an office for fouryears, but have just landed a job in an operatingtheatre, not knowing the first thing abouthealthcare, and not even having the right qualificationsfor the job. Confidence is the key!

SGKelloe32: Aside from 'happytohelp's interview query, it just goes to show why our NHS is falling apart.  You've got a job in an operating theatre with 'no' experience or qualifications to do the job.  Well I must admit, that leaves one with no end of confidence in our NHS.  What hospital will you be working at?  I'll be sure not to have an accident near by!!

Happytohelp: I always say research on the company, print of details and take them with you, shows you are motivated and forward planning/thinking.  Never say anything negative about yourself.  Always turn a negative into a positive.  Don't say a negative like 'you can't get up in the morning', say 'you need to learn to delegate more as you take too much on' or ' that you are perhaps too organised' etc.  Try and pre-plan answers to questions (although this sometimes comes with practice and interview experience).  Always be polite and sit up straight with eye contact. Don't waffle, be direct.  Give examples too.  Websites like www.adecco.co.uk or www.workthing.com can help you with interview technique. It really comes down to how much you want the job.  Although I often think that if they don't choose me, it's their lost.  Gives you more self esteem and an air of confidence for the interview!  Good luck.

If you are going to work in a library just try to control THE VOLUME OF YOUR VOICE !

Good luck though.

I had an interview in my local library for voluntery work in the summer. They asked that 'flaw' question and i said that 'once i've started a job, i can't leave it unfinished, ' etc and that i was an organised person and tended to tidy up whenever i saw a bit of a muddle. I think i also said something along the lines of if a person wants a book and they can't find it, i'd make it a priorty to ring up other libraries in the area for them and order the book in. Say somthing like 'libraries offer an important and irreplaceable service, many people (elderly and students) rely heavily on libraries and it is important that they find the right books quickly and easily.' basically, just kiss the library's ar$e and say you're an organised, dedicated and friendly person who can work under pressure. Sorry if i have worded this a bit badly, but you get the general idea! Good luck with your interview!! xx
Someone I know had an interview the other day to work in a library, and they asked her questions like "what would you do if an uncontrollable lunatic came in?" etc.  So be prepared for questions like that! Good luck!

Good luck.  Make sure you are dressed smartly but comfortably.  There is nothing worse than going for an interview and feeling uncomfortable.  Make eye contact, use a firm handshake (not a bone breaker though) and smile on introduction.

SG Kelloe.  Congratulations on your new job.  What can you do in an operating theatre that doesn't rely on experience?  I am really interested.  I am presuming you are not going straight in as a surgeon and a nurse!

When they ask what you think are your weaknesses, never say that you don't have any.  Everyone does, even if they don't like to admit it.  All interviews I have had seem to aske questions that relate directly to my last job, such as 'give an example of when you have had to work as a team to somplete a task' or similar, so always prepare some examples and make notes, most interviewers sdon't mind if you refer to notes (as long as you are not reading the answer word for word!)

Good Luck

I'm going to be a team assistant, doing NVQon the job training in operating theatre practice.Eventually, continuing on to be a nurse. As for Murthwaites comment, i merely meant that i did not have the NVQ, but can work towards it.As for having no experience in healthcare, we all haveto start some where. I was just giving advice to happy to help that confidence is the key to getting where they want to be. I have been tryingto get a job in the NHS for two years now, and myperserverance has now paid off. And now i'm set upto get on with the rest of my life.
Thanks SG Kelloe, and well done!
