Job Interview
7 Answers
This probably isn't the best place to post but it was the only heading I found worthy. I was just wondering how to get through a job interview and GET the job. I haven't had an interview for four years so I'm a bit rusty, has anyone got any tips? I know about the firm handshake and stuff but I just get all nervous, forgetting answers to the simplest questions and end up bright red and embarrassed by the end of it. Has anyone got any idea how to overcome my nerves a little bit?

Also, take your time to answer questions. Gather your thoughts first before trying to blurt something out.
Good eye contact, not too much though. As a guideline, keep eye contact with someone while they are talking to you, then make eye contact with everyone whilst you are answering.
If you've a job already, then just think you've got a fall back if things go wrong. This stopped me getting too nervous.
Most importantly, just be yourself.
Unfortunately, nothing is a guaruntee of getting the job as every interview is different. Interviewers all use different techniques to decide who the person is for the job.
Hi - I know how you feel - it's intimidating. Do the obvious stuff. Research the company before you go and write down 2 or 3 relevant sensible questions to ask them - where do you envisage the company to be in 5 years time etc. Also, have a think about any difficult questions they may ask you - which are always the 'what do you think your strengths and weaknesses are'. If you have practiced these beforehand it's always much easier as you will have the answers already in your head.
When they are talking to you try and concentrate hard on what they are saying - sometimes it's really easy to let your mind drift off to what you imagine the next question will be! I've found this strategy helps me and take nothing personally - it's never personal at the first stage - just a matter of your facing fitting the company if all the interviewees were of the same caliber. Good luck!
