Can you access the email headers?
He should change his email password and maybe even change his email address
I wouldn't have thought so. If you drag them into your junk email folder, it might show a real address if the sender is expecting replies. It might not be a member of your club, if you send emails listing all the members addys instead of setting up an email group or bcc ing, its easy enough to get hold of other folks' addresses.

So for example they might set up a fake Yahoo account like "[email protected]", then send an email pretending it was from you.

You can't track that via technical means without the involvement of the police and/or Yahoo. But there are other ways.

Look for example at the style of writing, spelling mistakes, use of punctuation and capitals etc. Compare it to emails from known members, and one or two may stand out.
Is the email address that the sender that appears to be sending them from the same as the address of the genuine email account of the member?
