Annual Cap On Gp Visits Proposed

Was just drawn to this by a nurse friend in FB, apparently Jeremy Hunt is proposing a cap on the amount of times you can visit a GP in a year. If anyone's interested there's a petition set up by 38 Degrees.

I've just received notification of this proposal by email. I was going to post a link to it, but wasn't sure of the rules here regarding petitions and politics.

I am astounded by the depths this government will go to to crush people less fortunate than themselves. I know they have been called the nasty party and this really shows why, doesn't it? Hopefully, ideas like this will be their downfall and we can be rid of them at the next election.

I've just had a google about and there isn't much that I can find except for something in the Mail from 3 days ago, I don't know how this hasn't been broadcast from the roof tops. The cynic in me might think that this week has been a good week to bury bad news.

The people who posted the petition have reached their target number of signatures already, so the message is getting through somehow. Please, ABers, lets have lots more to show the nasties what we think of their cruel ideas.

Doesn't say, I don't think it's the point though. If a patient is taking the pee and wasting time the GP can deal with it himself.

Lol! Been to the GP more in the last year or so than I have in my previous 33 years on the plannet... do you think I can carry the years over when I didn't go? ;o)

I wouldn't have thought this idea will get very far, people with chronic conditions and all that... :c)

I rather suspect this is a storm in a teacup, if only because it just couldn't work. Policy makers are often taught to 'think the unthinkable', most of which is then thrown out but a tiny bit of which could give birth to a workable idea. When political opponents get hold of these ideas, they understandably make hay.

it's a completely inappropriate proposal. If you've paid your dues, you should be able to visit when you need to - people with long term conditions and multiple problems can be there every week. Perhaps they could limit people who've never paid in at all - now there's an idea....

I believe he was was testing the water tho' signed up some time ago. Not only have those in the vulnerable age group payed their dues, many of us still pay tax at standard rate yet could now be second class citizens. also many of us can afford private care but what the heck, its a matter of principle.

this is a disgraceful idea, whilst I probably only visit the GP about four times a year and under protest, my late husband was so ill, bless him, he definitely needed to visit much more than the intended quota, he hated it but his meds changed all the time.
