my wife and i keep getting a smell of gas where the meter used to be
(in a cupoard just behind the front door) the meter was moved to outside about 18 months ago.the gas pipe is very difficult to get to. if i report a gas leak would i be responsable for the repair? i have buildngs insurance and a gas maintainance contract but i cannot find anything about a leak in any of them. house is private but all the houses on the estate had the meters moved to the outside.
grateful any suggestions

I can't answer that for sure but whenever you suspect a gas leak and dial the appropriate number they should come out to investigate and not charge you for that. Has happened to me a couple of times.
Even if there is a charge for investigating if there actually a gas leak, won't it be worthwhile to pay for the repair than have your home at risk of being burned down? And for your peace of mind too?
That's true society, but I feel sure you won't be charged for a gas leak investigation because it's a danger and can be catastrophic if things get worse.
phone Transco.
(I think that's the people)
We lived in an all electric house and smelt gas, they came and investigated,
No charge.
A 'dead' pipe had lost its' cap.
Ring the gas supplier - that's what they'd rather you did, than risk a leak or explosion.
"keep getting a smell of gas".....I can't believe it wasn't reported at first sign. Have you ever experienced a gas explosion??
Anything up to the meter is the responsibility of the suppliers. They'll always put it right at no cost to you ........ unless, of course you'd damaged it somehow.

From the meter inwards is your system, so you would be responsible.
In this case, it's clearly something that has occurred when the meter was moved. Do call them. They'll want to know.
