Hello ABers, In mid June I'm taking my wife to Italy for 3 days break. we will use Pisa as our base and the first day we will be doing leaning tower, field of miracles and hopefully Lucca. On the second day we plan to spend all day in Florence. The third day we have all the day as our flight home isn't until 10.15pm. Where can we go on the 3rd day? do you know anywhere worth visiting, another town for example, that can be be reached via either bus or train with out too long travelling. Thanks in advance.

You could do worse than a second day in Florence.
You could have a day by the sea in Viareggio.
You must visit Siena. In my view better than Florence, and a nice lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Palio at a very reasonable price,
Agree with canary - a second day in Florence , you can't do it justice in one day .
You'll never do Florence in a day, I'd definitely do two there.
I know some people who can do Venice in a day so if that's the case you can do Florence in a day!!! (By the way this is not me! I spent 1 week in Venice and it wasn't enough) so if you do just want a quick look around hedgebeater's right, Siena is well worth it; it's like walking in another world....
The countryside/wine growing areas of Tuscany are worth a visit IMO - very pretty.

I also think that you should visit Tuscany on the third day of your holiday as it is a fascinating place that has many eye catching places to watch and enjoy.
Lerici is nice place to visit
Heartily recommend Siena
I imagine you will want to explore more of Florence on your 3rd day, but Volterra is also an option if history is your thing.

thank you all for your suggestions. 2 days in Florence is an option but as much as I like architecture, museums etc I don't want to spend the best part of 2 days 'indoors'. I''l check out Siena as a possible but will keep Florence in mind if we have things left over from the first day. thanks everyone.
Siena or San Gimignano are lovely
Whenever i read, write and heard about PISA city "A Learning Tower" comes in my mind. Pisa is a fantastic city to travel along with family and kids. It has many places to get hang around with kids which includes the historical buildings of great architecture. You will be unforgettable journey for you and your family. http://www.joguru.com/pisa-italy/
You must go to Lucca, it's beautiful. We got a bit lost wandering around, and then turned a corner and came across a bustling market square, with cafes and restauarants and flowers everywhere. It is a wonderful place.
and also, if you book your Leaning Tower tickets online, it is so much easier. You just go and collect them from the office and dont have to queue up.
prebook for the Uffizi in Florence as well

The queues stretch halfway to Rome
