Prince Philip visiting the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology, in Cambridge, was introduced to a Polish research scientist and greeted him with "Did you come here to pick raspberries?"

I was among a group who were introduced to him at the shaft side. What really impressed me was while we where stood there a shift of men came out of the pit. As they went by Phil stepped forward and said something along the lines of "Petty Officer ***** a moment of your time please" turned out the guy had served on the same ship, they spent about 10 minutes chatting then off they went. All in all he came over as a genuine sort.
