I have always chosen fluoride free toothpaste but can't really say that I understand why or what the affects of fluoride are, positive or negative. I just avoid additives whenever I can.

However I'm forever at the dentist for fillings, crowns and root canal. should I reconsider?

Or like my sister who will use whatevers cheapest in the supermarket, do we just have weak teeth that need lots of treatment?

I think fluoride is supposed to strengthen your teeth ( or your teeth enamel ) Thats why it is or was added to tap water.
I may be wrong but I always thought fluoride was only meant to help in developing teeth ie chidren's. My daughter's father insisted I added fluoride drops to my daughter's baby milk. I wished I stood up to him as she has discolouration spots on her adult teeth now which I'm sure is a direct result.
For fluoride to have it's beneficial effects, it has to be taken by mouth, swallowed and absorbed into your bloodstream via the gut.

Do you swallow your toothpaste?..............I don't.

No I don't swallow the toothpaste, so I'm as well off with the fluoride free toothpaste. So if I have dental problems, would it be of benefit to find a fluoride supplement which I can take Sqad?
I was too old when fluoride was first put into the water and my teeth are rubbish (what's left of them). But we gave jno jnr fluoride drops in his drink 30 years ago and he's never so much as had a filling. One of the few things I've got right as a parent.

Toothpaste, I don't know, but is it any worse than ony of the other things in the tube?

My opinion....fluoride makes little or no difference to the quality of dentine.

Another scientific subject where you can find a study to argue for your case or indeed against it.

Take your pick............(pun intended..;-)
