Reminded of an old Careers Advice video from School

Someone at work reminded me of the 'Neville Sponge' videos they used to show at school for careers advice. Does anyone else remember these from the 80s/90s and wonder if he's still a Mastic Asphalt Spreader?

Now in retirement I enjoyed stumbling across Neville again - from at least 30 years ago.

I used to teach with these videos in the 80's. I'm pretty sure my kids enjoyed them as I remember Neville has come up in conversation with now 'grown-up' ex-pupils years later. He wanted to be a brain surgeon but didn't match his abilities to his ambitions. (I once had - honestly - a very nice lad who wanted to be a surgeon but eventually joined the family butchers business).

I think the videos evolved out of even earlier camera film-strips shown on a projector.

I suppose I used Neville as a 'this is what happens to you if you don't work hard' but I'm sure there are people out there who have earned more money being a mastic asphalt spreader than ever I did - and maybe they enjoyed their job more than me too.

I just liked the job title rolling off the tongue like a limeric - and Nev was funny too.

Talking to family tonight about Neville sponge to universal weird looks. I remember him very well. Let's face it... Careers advice at school was fairly pointless. The only thing that made it fun was Neville Sponge. Still laugh with mates about him though none of us decided to become mastic asphalt spreaders. Alistair. Kettering
