this discussion has probably been done to death on here.

Himself yesters said that the student alba will be in at dinner time. For me, that's between 5 and 7pm
Lunch is between noon and 2pm
According to himself, dinner time is between noon and 2, and it's teatime between 5 and 7.

So I asked him what does he eat when he gets up in the morning?
Answer, food.

Jeez!!

we had school lunches - lunch money
On the whole I agree with DTCs timings......I would like to add High Tea for when I'm north of the border though..........
Breakfast at about 7 ish. Cup of tea and a fag.
Lunch 12 ish cup of tea and a fag.
Dinner 5 ish Only meal I eat most days. No cup of tea but a small French lager to wash it down.
Breakfast time is when you get up, lunchtime a few hours later, tea/dinner 5 to 8 whenever it can be squeezed in, supper just before beddy-byes time.

Ps I've left you a message on the growing old thread!!
As QM says, dinner is the main meal of the day. That's why the better off have lunch at 1 and dinner in the evening from Monday to Saturday, but dinner at 1 and 'supper' in the evening on Sunday. It's why ordinary folk have dinner at 1. It's also why everyone has Christmas dinner at 1 or as soon thereafter as the company can be heard complaining. And a Sunday lunch is a lighter, more casual, meal than dinner.

Me, I'd take himself's answer as meaning about 7 .
