To anybody who knew him - he was a one priest who had to attend many many suicides 24/7 here in NI - he took his own life today - Matt RIP.

I didn't know of him, Connemmara, but it is always sad to hear that someone has been so desperate to end their life.

I hope he has found the peace he deserves.

He was tortured day and night with people's problems - contacted 3 or 5 o'clock in the morning - then up trying to do mass - afterwards trying to console some mothers and fathers sons and daughters with their loss - I know suicide is very sad and I get very sad re suicide but I am glad he is out of his misery - he has had a few breakdowns within the last 4 years. He never got peace. God bless him tonight. He was truly a remarkable and extremely clever man.

As my friend used to say to me "Man first - priest second" - he was just a man in a priest's uniform.

Working with such desperate people and situations is bound to take a toll on your own health after a while.

I hope he will be well remembered by those whose lives he touched.
