the wine aisle to-day. Spoke with a lady who informed me that "it's a well known fact that white wine is very good for ones' lungs." Anyone know anything about this, or would it make a very excellent excuse (if one needed one)?

Well it makes some folks exercise their singing voices.......
Well I'm willing to believe it ;)
That's me buggered then. Unless it's champagne, I only drink red!

Oh .... and I don't need an excuse. ;o)
It's a well known fact that whenever one's about to expound a piece of complete horse manure one should always prefix it with 'it's a well known fact'

If it was really a well known fact there'd be no point in saying it.

A bit like saying it's a well known fact that David Cameron is the Prime Minister
I'm not much of a wineo, my lungs would definitely suffer if they depended on white wine to survive.

I still like the idea and was expecting a little encouragement to open a bottle - for my health's sake, of course.
I have never had any problem with lungs. At last I know why!

DJ - You are worth your weight in white wine. Thank you - bottle opened.
So eating while grapes might be even more beneficial, I guess...

I've had Algerian white that made me cough a lot, which gave my lungs a lot of exercise. There could be something in the theory.

I'm with Jno on this!!
The last three paragraph of the link say basically:
1. We need more research
2. Drinking alcohol can lead to lots of health problems
3. A balanced, healthy diet is good for you

Which more of less neutralises the whole argument!
