It's OK, personally I prefer Bath which is within easy reach of Bristol
As a tourist it is pleasant enough. And as implied, it can be used as a base for nearby places also.

yes good call will take Bath in
We stayed there for the first time last year and loved the area. Visit the SS Great Britain in Bristol Docks, visit the Clifton suspension bridge and of course visit the wonderful city of Bath, so much to see and do but don't miss the Roman Baths. If you go to Bristol between 8 - 11 August there is the renowned Bristol Hot Air Balloon Fiesta which would be a great sight.
The best part of Bristol, now, is around the old harbourside, specially the Arnolfini Gallery.

The building is well worth a visit, even if you've no particular interest in arts.
A lovely area to walk around.
