Do People Look Younger These Days?

I was looking at some old photographs the other day going back to the 50's, 60's and 70's. People of the same age seem to look younger these days than those of the same age 40-50 years ago. For example looking at pictures of 50 year old women and men from that time, they looked a lot older than those of a similar age today. Is it because of the fashion of the time that seem to age them looking from today's perspective or is it something else?

I think it's a combination of what's available to help - cosmetics, clothes etc etc but more a desire to do so. I think women used to be programmed to some extent that from 30,40 onwards they had no purpose in trying to improve their appearance. Trying to look good is not being vain either IMO, well that's my excuse anyway.

I think a lot of younger women look older than they are. The amount of slap they put on has the reverse effect it should have.

I am always amazed by photos of young soldiers who fought in World War One. They look like forty-year-olds.
