Does A Mobilr Phone Need To Be On A Network....

I have a work phone (Blackberry 9360) which refuses to recharge. I had problems with another one of these before.

What i'm thinking of doing is to buy my own phone and put the sim card in it, as my work pay the bills on that number. Work phones are on orange.

Do i have to get a new phone linked to the orange network also, or can I buy a phone that's not on any network?

As long as the new phone is not locked to another network and is compatible with the sim card it will be ok. Have you tried another / new battery?

You can buy a new phone that is not on any network, they cost a bit more, in fact about what it costs to get a locked phone unlocked but they are a lot less hassle.

I think its more of a problem with the little port where you plug it in. On both phones I have had to plug the phone in, then gently wiggle the connection until the phone shows that it is recharging.

Work tends to buy reconditioned phones, so I dont think they are particularly good to begin with.

If it is a mini USB socket can you try another lead?

Tried that on both phones with several different leads. Also tried the leads on a friends BB and it charged up ok.

The problem with the socket on both phones was there when i got them.

Was thinking of maybe getting a Galaxy? It would also mean that I could use the phone if I ever left work, and just hand in the old BB handset.

Peachy, I know nothing about any kind of mobile that does anything other than make and receive phone calls. I am sure you will get lots of advice from the smart phone users on this site.
