PPTM stands for Microsoft PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Presentation file which can be opened with Microsoft Office 2007 version.

What version of Powerpoint do you have? You will need 2007 to open it.

However, if you don't have that all is not lost. Just download the Microsoft Office Compatibility pack and all should be ok.

Or if you've not got any version of powerpoint you can install the powerpoint viewer for free which will allow you to view, but not edit the file.

The easiest way to open a PPTM file is to double-click on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file. If no program opens the PPTM file then you probably don't have an application installed that can view and/or edit PPTM files.
Use Notepad or another text editor to open the PPTM file. Many files are text-only files meaning no matter the file extension, a text editor may be able to properly display the file's contents.

My grateful thanks to all those who provided me with these answers - they have all been very helpful. I found that I was using an old version of Powerpoint and when I used a newer version, the file opened without any problem.
Glad you got it sorted. Not sure what johnymsmith is talking about. Notepad certainly won't open it (well not into anything that doesn't look like heiroglyphics)

Sometimes copying and pasting from websites without any knowledge of the problem is not a wise thing to do.
