I'm not educated in the laws of chemistry, but I've just emitted a particularly foul smelling gas from my backside, and it got me thinking...is it possible for a human to produce enough backside gas to kill themselves in a confined space? I recognise that this is only theoretical, but I'm intrigued all the same.

No
Yes it is.
Could kill someone else though.

I would imagine it is, a true story from some years ago.

A vet was called to a constipated cow, he decided to give it an anemiia, after inserting a tube up the cows backside, in the failing ligt, in order to see properly what he was doing, he struck a match. The resulting explosion destroyed the barn an farmhouse, the vet lived, but was severely injured.

As I said, its a true story, taken from a book of incredible accidents. a cow is an animal, as we are, maybe you could try the same on yourself, then post the results back, hopefully not from a hospital bed.

Have a look at Nominee No. 5 on this website.

lol peghead, I live the bean and pulse guy story, do you think this will happen to gillian Mckeith

i read a story of a man who taped up all doors and windows in a tiny room and deliberately ate loads of beans etc and died. though this could have also been because of lack of oxygen.

it is possible but unlikely

I agree with ****** - a definite no! Afart is mainly air along with varying amounts of methane, hydrogen sulphide etc. Methane is not poisonous and although hydrogen sulphide is it is not produced in sufficient quantity.

Don't know about killing people, but Mr Spudqueens friend once did one so bad that Mr Spudqueens brother threw up!

The gas that smells is not methane but hydrogen sulpide which is as poisonous as cyanide. So yes, if you ate loads of cauliflower, egg yokes and red meat and sat in an air tight space for a few days it would kill you!
