Internet help please

I have just started using a Compaq laptop, XP Pro and Internet Explorer (my usual computer is broken). Everything works fine until I click on something which tries to open in a new window. The window opens but I can see the original window through it and the wee egg timer just keeps going and nothing appears in the window or in the address bar. However if I then click on home my homepage loads fine into the new window. Any help would be appreciated

Assuming you've got enough memmory to run Windows XP you probebly need to reinstall windows.
