Well done Conne! You don't have to use them to actually express your emotion just tuck one on the end of a sentence to show what the emotional undercurrent is.

But I printed more Emoticons so I may get better than you - no I realise you only need the one emoticon - I just used a little more so you could tell me if they were ok. Did you understand them?

The two in your OP suggest you are crying and happy.

They may seem trivial little things but they do help impart that missing je ne sais quois of the written word.

Boxy okay I understand - they can be a pain in the a se. Seems I have to use them though so people can understand my sense of humour.
