Why Does A Cough Get Worse On Lying Down?

I have that horrid cold/cough at the moment, and haven't been too bad during the day, but at night I have had no sleep as every time I lie down - even propped up- I cough so violently I am sick. Same in the daytime. Only being upright stops it. Any idea why this is?

yeah this is classical for something called a post-nasal drip

which you can clear upright and less efficiently supine.

Try co codamol - 2 tabs - so that would be 16 mg codeine along with the rest and see what happens

Your lungs work better in an upright position, as they have more room
