After looking at pictures some of the so called ladies at Ascot, does anyone agree that the fascinator has had it's day and is now rather common? A nice classy hat always looks much better.

I prefer the horses
I'm backing Psybbo.
The fascinator has got to be one of the most ridiculous things ever. I suspect they were invented by some misogynist designer with the sole intention of making women look stupid!
I'm watching it on At The Races, missus comes home and asks to turn over to Channel 4 to see the hats and dresses....

Still watching ATR
A fascinator is a good alternative for women who don't have much hair as it doesn't flatten what little there is. Equally it is good for women with thick hair as in the summer they don't overheat. I don't know why people are such snobs about them. An understated fascinator can look just as classy as a hat. Some hats are just as 'common' and ridiculous. Remember the pretzel?
Don't start me off about the snobs dressing up for the races. I like to go racing but prefer to wear suitable outdoor clothing. What nonsense it all is.
I love the hats, but then I've always loved hats although I don't own as many as I used to.
Maydup, exactly!
An appropriate fascinator is NOT common. I have a huge collection of both fascinators and hats which I will wear depending on the occasion. I will not go to a wedding without headgear and I will rarely go to a funeral without an appropriated staid black/dark coloured hat.

Dave, I'm interested to know how you came to this conclusion.
Altho I do agree with Maydup, when I go racing, I am dressed for comfort, not style.
I don't go to the races (ever since I was attacked by a drunken Geordie woman at York races) but like BM I've always had wedding and funeral hats. For some reason I've never fancied a fascinator although my sister has some very pretty ones.
Is that you in the middle, Tony?
No Hopkirk, looks like a Baggies fan to me !.
Boing boing
LOL.
