Have you noticed that single-room supplements are getting bigger and bigger ? They used to come in at about 20 percent over the price for each member of a couple, but some holiday firms now are asking nearly 50 percent over. It looks like a racket to me, and it is clear they just do not want singles. After all, couples buy more drinks and meals than singles. And when you do pay the extra, you get a rotten room without a balcony or a view, usually overlooking the dustbins or the place where the local dance-bands rehearse all night. But even some of the firms specialising in single travellers don't get their prices down to the price-level equivalent to that charged to one member of a couple.
I don't know who you used to book your room, but I have traveled to Europe and that includes 15 countries and I have never paid a supplement for being single. If you use a tour company you have to pay a supplement as that is the only way the company making the booking makes any money. I always stear clear of those types of travel and book my own arrangements. you can usually make better deals on your own.
