aren't they mostly hidden under their white frocks?
Question Author
yes but the soles of Federers shoes are usually on the ground
I think the "shorts" count as underwear. It does seem a bit of an anomaly though.
I thought it a bit odd that Fed was asked to have white soles.

I might just google Wimbledon dress code out of curiosity.
Undergarments are regarded as 'accessories' under the rules and ,therefore, can be of any colour. They are ,however, not supposed to be visible when the player is standing upright.
...which is odd, because you'd think the same would apply to the soles of shoes .
'odd' is a very good word to describe the powers that be of Wimbledon, ichkeria. :)
they were orange, but it does seem odd the women do get away with some colour in their clothing.

you could see the soles, when he runs, however strange rule.
There is a very good chance that Nike deliberately flouted the rules with federers trainers as the ensuing publicity has been priceless.

Further to my post yesterday the rules state that players can wear any coloured underwear they wish provided it does not show beneath their shorts or skirt. Still seems daft to me!!!
There are committees agonising over trivial "Dress Code" matters at most gold clubs in UK. Tennis is quite relaxed by comparison. At my golf club men are now permitted to wear short white ankle socks when wearing 'tailored' shorts, but are prohibited from wearing in-shoe sockets.

Mcmouse, I know nothing about golf, what are in-shoe sockets?
My local greengrocer went for a round of golf at his club. 3 days later he got a letter from the committee telling him not to park his sign written van in the front car park as it lowers the tone of the golf club. Needless to say he told them where to stick their membership!
years ago i knew someone who was berated for not wearing a tie in the golf club bar ... the following week he was in the bar wearing a tie, nothing else, just a tie
