My son's girlfriend, a dancer, has joined a troupe doing burlesque and I am of the mind it is up- market stripping and the prude within me won't budge. I have seen her dance, she is a ballerina, I haven't seen her in this new role. The pictures on their F/B page are risqué in my opinion, ( the ladies have no clothes on ) and I am in shock, I think!
What would you think if your daughter / dil were to take up this form of dance? An I being an old fashioned prig ?

I think you are being old fashioned.

I am kind of old fashioned Ummmm, so you are right !!
Just fat ladies having fun
Thinking about my 7 and 5 year old, can't say I would be too chuffed but might be different if they decided to do it when they 'grown ups'. You can't help the way you feel, as long as you are not rude to her about it.
Burlesque is also old fashioned. It's been about for a long long time.
I like that Von Teese woman.

Flump darling there's really nothing to worry about at all as at the end of the day it's just an act, a show and a great and promising career and hardly lapdancing or stripping. I've done burlesque dancing in my younger days when my figure had seen better days (before all the pies and chips went to my thighs and hips) and had an absolute ball and there wasn't any funny business involved, well not much anyway but my point is support her in her chosen career. Your son is a very lucky, lucky guy as burlesque and ballerinas are great movers with great figures, i actually wanted to be a ballerina but broke the stage and flattened the poor guy who tried to catch me though i made it up to him after the show, ooh i'm awful.

Thank you all, I should lighten up a little, ! She is a darling girl, not an ounce of fat on her ( Elvis ) . My son is ok with it, and they are brilliant together. I never thought she was brave enough to take to the stage nigh on naked as she is a shy lass !
Ok sorry, fat is probably the wrong word, curvy?
I thought you liked curvy, Elvis :-)
Yeh I do
Flump1 you should get her to teach you some of the moves, i've never felt so sexy as when i was doing burlesque, well actually i've done pole dancing and belly dancing but unfortunately my stories of that time are not appropriate for this site and would possibly see me banned off this site and probably the whole internet for life and that's no lie!
Burlesque is a totally different kettle of fish to the Sunday lunchtime pub stripper or the lapdancer. Nothing to worry about at all.
It is 3 am, but I have only just seen your post.

About a year ago I went to see a Rock 'n' Roll band at a local venue.
During the intermission there was a burlesque show. I had no idea this was going to take place, but as a red blooded male I watched, wanting to like it.

I didn't. It was sleazy, horrid, had no merit and I felt grubby watching it.

I think you are right to have your doubts. Maybe you should go and see for yourself, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to see another one
It's really nothing to do with you.
"but as a red blooded male I watched, wanting to like it.I didn't. It was sleazy, horrid, had no merit and I felt grubby watching it"

That is just the most funniest thing i've read today but can believe it as some of the groups are hideous, i remember watching a drag burlesque group at g.a.y in london and it was all fat rolls, bad teeth and body hair and i was thinking "Girls what the hell were you thinking" But it was all in good fun after we had passed the sick bucket around
