My toyota has developed a load humming noise which can even drown out the radio when i am doing 50mph. My son thinks its a wheel bearing wearing out. Do you think that either halfords or kwik Fit are the place to get it checked and repaired?
I would recommend going to a few small local garages and get some different points of view. If you have any Toyota specialists (not dealer) near you, all the better, they will have seen it before if it is a common problem on that particular vehicle, or they will suggest what else it could be although it sounds like a wheel bearing to me.
Jack up the wheel and rotate it. Listen for any unusual noise and feel for any roughness as it rotates, this may indicate that the bearing is damaged and needs to be replaced.
Try this before you start spending a lot of money.
Thanks everyone. Ive found a local garage and its going to cost me £123. What does anyone think about Kwik Fit MOT at only £30, or 20% off combined serice and MOT. Now that seems a good deal! TWR - I'm not on good wage I'm on a pension and I'm trying to get the best deal I can find
Before getting my new car, I had several MOTs done (half-price or even £20) at F1 autocentres. The car always passed, and they never "found" any work that needed doing. I rate them highly.
tooj: As you can see, they have loads of branches - and have a "price promise" on everything. So, if you find a really cheap MOT offer locally, they will beat the price. That's what i used to do - they were always happy to do it and the cars always passed first time.
I've taken my cars to KwikFit for MOTs for years now and I've never been given a list of things to be corrected. In fact, on more than one occasion they have supplied and fitted number plate bulbs and an exhaust bracket free of charge to prevent a failure.
Not saying KF is perfect but I speak as I find, and I hope all those who criticise them do the same.
