Don't know if you can use any oil in a deisel car. I have a deisel and bought Castrol GTD oil which is for deisel engines. Does it say anything in your car's manual?
On the basis that any oil is better than no oil then possibly yes, but VERY much better to use oil that specifies its approval for diesels. Check the handbook or at a garage.
Not the sort of thing I'd gamble with. Carry a spare litre in the boot.

Any engine oil will not harm your engine. Diesel engine oil contains "detergents" to wash the engine internals and hold the contamination in the oil. So it is good to use high detergent oil but it is better to change it more regularly.

A common nick name for Diesel engines is "Dirty oilers"

If you want to buy a new engine in a few miles then put any oil in your engine!

Nobody who has answered your question above knows what sort of car you have!

On some deisel cars the manufactures are very, very specific on what sort of oil is put in their engines!

The wrong oil will invalidate any warranty you may have!

Go and ask the dealers who have your make of car and ask them.

totally agree with toureman. need more information about type of car and age before we can tell you.it will need to be diesel specific oil ,and comes in different viscosity.... met a chap who put chip oil in his car .plonker.
