// The radical Islamist cleric Abu Qatada will voluntarily go back to Jordan if and when its parliament ratifies a new deportation treaty with Britain, his lawyers have said.

The disclosure is a major breakthrough for the home secretary, Theresa May, in her battle to deport the cleric.

The treaty with the Jordanians, which is designed to ensure he will face a fair trial on terror charges without the use of evidence obtained by torture, was signed on 24 March. //

How long do you think the Jordanians will take to ratify it?

If he retirns voluntarily, does that deny the Home Secretary the victory of deporting him?

There would be a certain irony if, despite ten years of his fighting to stay here, he just walks out if his own free will.

Who cares as long as he goes?
Quite Ludwig..

Is he going later or an 11th hour appeal?
