A Cat D is where the repairs were more than about 60% of the value of the car.
A Cat B is a total write off and the car cannot (normally) be repaired an a Cat A is normally fire damage and even the car parts cannot be used
a catagory c is a condition of a car after a accident, insurance companies grade the damage to a car after a accident and before it can be put back on the road, cat d is the lowest, cat c will need a vosa inspection of the repair before it is allowed back on the road, cat b and a are near or full write offs,be carefull if you buy a cat d or c it might be a dodgy one,ok
Norman's right about it needing a vosa check (vic check) but not regarding the repairs. All a vic check does is check the identitiy of the car, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the standard of repair and indeed you can have a car vic checked before you bother to repair it.It's simply to make it more difficult for people to ring cars. A cat D or sometimes a C can be as little as rips and tears, scratches, panel damage etc, very often the cars are quite safe and quite driveable as they are, although more seriously they may need jigging if it's been a fairly good but localised hit.
