hmm, although i know some companies are more casual than other i'd be a bit wary but you can still look smart in a decent pair of jeans, shirt and jumper imho
Sorry to go against your advice Theo but I would really advise against wearing jeans to a first interview. My company is all 'forward thinking' and easy going, etc but from experience, it really doesnt make a great first impression if you turn up for a first interview wearing jeans. In my opinion, you dont need to go suited and booted but some something smart would be good and you could always funk it up a bit with some accessories.
Wear something by wrangler. it sounds cheesy but they will like the fact you've bought their product and it can always be smartened by the top or bottom that you wear. good luck
I would normally always go for suit, but would be tempted to be a bit more casual if they have said "Wrangler is casual wear so feel free to dress accordingly". That could be a generic paragraph put on all correspondance regarding interviews. What sort of position are you going for? If you are a designner or gonna be working in retail I could be tempted to go more casual, but if you are going for a position in managment or HR then I would definitely go smart. Is there anyway you can scope out the place where you will be having the interview, in particular the higher-ups, who would likely be interviewing you?

I recently had an interview, where I wore a full suit and the people interviewing me were completely casual (one even had a body warmer over a loose shirt!). It didn't feel that bad. But if i had worn jeans and they were wearing suits I would felt like a fool.

If i were you i'd go somewhere inbetween. Maybe suit without a tie (i always think this looks great), although can't imagine it in interview :-(
