My company is all 'forward thinking' and easy going, etc but from experience, it really doesnt make a great first impression if you turn up for a first interview wearing jeans. In my opinion, you dont need to go suited and booted but some something smart would be good and you could always funk it up a bit with some accessories.
I would normally always go for suit, but would be tempted to be a bit more casual if they have said "Wrangler is casual wear so feel free to dress accordingly". That could be a generic paragraph put on all correspondance regarding interviews. What sort of position are you going for? If you are a designner or gonna be working in retail I could be tempted to go more casual, but if you are going for a position in managment or HR then I would definitely go smart. Is there anyway you can scope out the place where you will be having the interview, in particular the higher-ups, who would likely be interviewing you?
I recently had an interview, where I wore a full suit and the people interviewing me were completely casual (one even had a body warmer over a loose shirt!). It didn't feel that bad. But if i had worn jeans and they were wearing suits I would felt like a fool.
If i were you i'd go somewhere inbetween. Maybe suit without a tie (i always think this looks great), although can't imagine it in interview :-(
